Here is the thing:
The government tolerated and abetted institutional racism in the taxes office, which subsequently wrongly prosecuted thousands of persons of color for fraude. Accordingly, a new election was called. So far, so good, right?
Wrong.
The people of The Netherlands, mostly due to the popularity of the Prime Minister in COVID19 times, gave a significant mayority to the parties that originated the racist scandal. So they are bounded to form... the same government. Ok. Horrible, but hey, that’s the thing of democracy, right? The ones that get the most votes get to govern, right?
Wrong again.
In the discussion of the newly elected parliament, the parties of the opposition exposed several instances in which the former Prime Minister lied, about how he was handling the formation of the new government. So they called for a vote of confidence... that the PM should have lost. Correct this time?
You know it, wrong.
Because the parties that actually won the elections voted to support the PM. So he stayed. And so they get on with forming government... I am not even going to ask “right?”, because we know that every logical step in this comedy does not happens, but something more absurd happens instead. So after having voted to support the PM yesterday, one of the parties decided today that they actually do not trust the PM. So now nothing is right or wrong, since nobody knows what will follow. So you expect right now that this mess is what I meant to describe when I titled these lines The Impossible Situation of The Netherlands, right?
Well, no.
The real impossible situation is that the opposition, that vague group of people were I belong, has expend some weeks mourning the electoral results and now we are cheering the exposure of our PM hypocrisy. We expect that at any second, the PM will go away. I mean, he lied, right? PM do not get to lie and survive! But this horror, this fundamental crisis of the government, is fully irrelevant to the citizen that is not interested in politics. Horror? For most of the dutch, this is not even a joke. It is outside their interest. If we go to vote tomorrow, the party of the PM will win again. And that tell all of us politicians and people interested in politics, that we are absolutely irrelevant.
I’ll write it again: absolutely irrelevant.
Because of we fight and fight and fight, and expose lies, and racism, and win elections or loose elections, or votes of confidence or changes of allegiances... and the people stays voting the same.Nobody gives a hoot about the current debates that happen in the parliament. And that is the real impossible situation. Because the government is there, still running your life and your future.
But you don’t care who is running it.
It could be waaaay worse... trust me, you haven't seen anything when elections don't have any meaning at all
No me jodan, coño.
