You're quite right, as usual. Curiously, those words you refer to haven't changed, same syllables, same letters, but the meaning behind the word has gone in an opposite direction. Words are just a tool, but "meaning" (the logical connotation of a word or phrase) and "mean" (poor, shabby, or inferior quality or status) have the same root, but widely different connotations. We we freer then; now we are slaves of political and cultural environment. It is just people being people.

Hola Chucho... I have come back to your answer now and then, and I am still not sure I get you. Anyhow...

Freer... possibly... I don't think so, but perhaps. I think that we were slaves of other (rather than less oppressive) political and cultural environment. But anyhow it is possible that previous environment were a bit looser, freer.

How's your feeling about that? those that makes them better?

Hello, Inti. After reading your comment several times, I understand why my comment is confusing. You are right, that environment was looser in the sense that we were less aware of the grip those environments had on us, perhaps due to our own naivety and lack of life-changing experiences. "But anyhow, it's possible that previous environment were a bit looser freer" is a clearer statement and makes it better.
